Bobby Lan

Bobby (Ruirui) Lan is an MMSc candidate in Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School in the Lee Lab, co-mentored by Dr. Mingyun Bae. He received his B.S. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology with a minor in Statistics from UCLA. He is developing a donor-specific long-read framework for locus-resolved quantification of autonomous L1 transposable element transcription, and is applying this framework to characterize L1 activity across human tissues using NIH’s SMaHT consortium data and to investigate cell-type-specific L1 dysregulation in Alzheimer’s disease. He is broadly interested in how repetitive and structurally complex regions of the genome shape human disease, and in building computational methods that make these regions tractable. Outside of lab, he plays competitive badminton and produces music.
