Junsoo Kim, PhD
Junsoo joined the lab in April 2026 as a postdoctoral fellow. He is a bioinformatician with broad interests in RNA biology, genomics, and computational method development. He holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Biotechnology from the University of Edinburgh and an M.Phil in Integrated Immunology from the University of Oxford. He spent six years in industry, where he contributed to the de novo assembly of the Korean reference genome with a focus on structural variant analysis, and later worked as a senior researcher in molecular diagnostics. His PhD research at Seoul National University, under the mentorship of Dr. Hyeshik Chang, focused on developing computational platforms for single-molecule RNA profiling and mRNA vaccine design. His current work in the lab centers on the SMaHT consortium, investigating somatic mutations and the transcriptomic landscape of transposable elements and their association with disease across diverse human tissues, integrating multi-omics approaches including genomic and epigenomic data.
