The skeletal survey is the "backbone" of child abuse imaging.  The skeletal survey will be performed in any child under 2 years of age with the clinical suspicion of child abuse.  The goals of the skeletal survey are to find unsuspected injuries that may assist in the determination of child abuse.  The skeletal survey is generally repeated at the 2 week mark to look for new injuries or healing injuries that were radiographically occult on the initial exam.
