Open position: We seek an experienced research engineer for brain MRI analysis to join our lab at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Title will be compitable with experience, at Data Engineer I, II, III or Computational Biologist.
Candidate qualifications: Master’s degree in Computational Neuroscience, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields. Experience in brain MRI analysis is preferred. This includes experience in brain MRI computing software such as FSL, SPM, AFNI, FreeSurfer, CONN, Connectome Workbench, Brain Connectivity Toolbox, and/or others. Familiarity with programming languages (R, Matlab, Python, BASH), cluster job schedulers (slurm, PBS, SGE, etc.), and machine learning libraries (PyTorch, Keras, TensorFlow) is a big plus. Scientific publications in neuroimaging-related journals are a big plus, too. Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and scientific presentation skills will help the scientist to succeed.
Job Opportunities: This position offers an opportunity for big data, computational neuroscience, data science, machine learning, and cloud/cluster computing. The scientist will interact with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students of diverse backgrounds spanning clinical, engineering, and scientific disciplines. The scientist will have opportunities to manage, process, and participate in the study design of big databases (N>100,000) for various projects, from normal to different levels of brain disorders, covering 0-100 years of age. The scientist will co-author scientific articles in many projects and will be encouraged to write his/her own first-author articles. The scientist is encouraged to grow independence, and write his/her own grant (e.g., SBIR/STTR), or participate in the writing of such grants. The goal is to set up a service core for neuroimaging service to various scientific/clinical projects and clinical trials throughout and beyond the Harvard-affiliated hospitals.
Timeframe: The starting date can be as early as December 1st, 2021. The position will be open until filled. The initial period is 2 years given satisfactory progress evaluated at the end of each year. Continuous stay beyond 2 years and career growth toward independence is highly encouraged.
